A Night at the Opera

July 14 at 8:30 p.m. EDT. A Night at the Opera (free and open to everyone) will explore Eugene Onegin, both the opera by Tchaikovsky and the novel in verse by Alexander Pushkin. IEugene Onegin we find the birthing ground of the better-known masterpieces of Russian literature like Anna Karenina, and Tchaikovsky’s 1879 opera is hauntingly beautiful and magnificent in every way!

Two Sessions on Music and the Arts for Homeschool

July 22 at 8 p.m. EDT. Strategies for Teaching Music in Homeschool for grades 1-6. This webinar covers selecting the best music, developing a keen ear for listening, tying music to every discipline, and making study more joyful. Registration ($5 fee) is open to all.

July 23 at 8 p.m. EDT. Strategies for Teaching the Arts in Homeschool for grades 7 and up. In addition to the topics of webinar for lower grades, we’ll discuss why music becomes more important with each passing year of a child’s life. Carol will also suggest ways to overcome common fears about teaching music and the arts. Registration ($5 fee) is open to all. 

The Classical Panel and Circe Conference

July 16-17 at 8 p.m. EDT. The Classical Panel convenes online as part of the Circe Institute’s Annual Conference. The panel consists of Andrew Kern, Martin Cothran, Andrew Pudewa, Christopher Perrin, and Carol Reynolds. These freewheeling discussions have become a mainstay of the Classical Education movement. Carol will also make a presentation at this conference entitled “A Grateful Heart a Garden Is: Replanting Sacred Music in a Digimodern World.”

The Music Club

July 12 at 4 p.m. EDT. The Music Club (for Circle of Scholars members only) will be discussing Petrushka (1911), a ground-breaking work by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky that premiered in a spectacular performance by the Ballets Russes in Paris. The music is a swirl of delight. The story is filled with colorful characters and even more colorful Russian traditions.
