Children sing before they speak . . .

Children respond to music at the earliest stages of their development. They enjoy listening. But music is not just a source of entertainment for children. It provides them with essential skills and constitutes an important part of their earliest development.

. . . they dance before they walk.

Here are a few suggestions and recommendations:

1.  At the earliest ages, surround your child with beauty. Engage your child in listening to music. Dance, clap, and conduct to the moods and rhythms.

2.  At elementary ages, focus on narrative and storytelling, vivid imagery, and colorful orchestrations.

3.  At all ages, prefer audio to video. Audio without video sets the imagination free and teaches listening over watching.

4.  Take every opportunity you can to hear live music sung or played on acoustical instruments.
