What things shape our understanding of the things we ardently pursue in life? In Episode #2 of Encounters, Hank and I talk about specific events that changed our approach to music (and, in some respects, life itself). In my case, the key incident involved a seemingly innocuous commitment to “turn pages” for a concert when I was in college. In Hank’s case, a huge shift in understanding came after he expanded from studying solely the piano to take up the horn, thereby experiencing music through the new dynamic of orchestra and band.
