Wagner’s Lohengrin

The story of Lohengrin is timeless, touching, and powerful. A knight of the Holy Grail, son of Parzival, arrives in a boat pulled by swans to defend Elsa, the beleaguered duchess of Brabant, and restore her claim to the throne. The evildoers, though, are not daunted, and return to pollute Elsa’s resolve to abide by the only request Lohengrin, now her beloved husband, has made of her.

This marvelous opera by Richard Wagner, first seen in 1850, pits beauty and truth against darkness and evil. The story shimmers, the score is gorgeous, and some of the music will be more familiar than you expect. Do join me on January 25th at 8 p.m. Eastern for a Night at the Opera as we follow this legendary knight into the troubled world of the Brabant dukes and witness the redemptive power of both love and honor.

The session, free to all, will be recorded for later viewing for registrants, and is appropriate for all ages.
